Luchemos por la Vida 30th Anniversary

Life is fight and fighting is life, said the presentation folder of our Association, born in the City of Buenos Aires on June 20th, 1990, with one goal:to strive for no more people dying in traffic.

A small group of people, united by love for life, concerned about the alarming daily news of deaths in traffic and the lack of government action on the problem, decided to start working from the community, for free, convinced that, if we could contribute to saving a single life, all efforts were worth it.

At that time, we were unaware that we were facing a pandemic: traffic accidents, that strikes the world in general and very especially in Argentina. Very soon we learned, from experts from successful countries on the subject, that this pandemic, unlike the coronavirus, which is currently hitting us today, has a cure with a comprehensive and efficient state policy for road safety.

We begin the task from the plain, trying to spread our concern to society. Solutions to unknown problems cannot be put into practice.

Time went by, and activities of Luchemos multiplied: access to the mass media made it possible to air television and radio awareness campaigns for 28 uninterrupted years, which up to now reach the borders of the country and exceed them. Proposals for legislation, educational workshops in schools, training courses for municipalities and companies, studies and research, a specialized magazine, annual awards, videos and teaching materials, a large website, a YouTube channel and the presence in social networks, a free online course, are just some of the paths traveled in these years, of intense activity with and for the Argentine community, with international significance. Years full of new experiences, learnings and also, it must be said, frustrations.

But we understand that all efforts made were worthwhile, having managed to place the problem of road safety on the agenda of mass media and politicians, for having encouraged other people to act, instead of waiting passively for everything to change, and above all, because many lives were saved in traffic with the changes achieved in these 30 years in Argentina.

Nevertheless, there is still a lot to do so that the high casualties rates in traffic drop significantly in our country. Sorrowfully, about 7.000 lives are lost each year in traffic. That is the reason of our commitment to keep working.

We appreciate the invaluable help of the media, journalists, sponsors and all the volunteers who believed in us and joined to our efforts. Who understood that this is everyone's problem and that, together, we can accomplish the utopia of nobody dying in traffic.

Thank you very much!  Luchemos keeps fighting for life!
